Swine Flu - cause for concern or just more nonsense?
During this week I have watched, with some amusement, news reports about the “dreaded swine flu”.
I say with amusement because indirectly many people are reveling in it. I am specifically referring to the news media, Health Officials and related organizations in various countries along with the World Health Organization. Oh, and let’s not forget about the makers of Tamiflu - although they keep quiet and we cannot hear them rubbing their hands in glee.
Last night on the news here in NZ half of the news was devoted to swine flu and all the headlines were about swine flu. It’s been like that for the last few days.
We in New Zealand have had an extra dose of it because a group of school children arrived back in NZ from Mexico earlier this week with flu symptoms. Some of them have tested positive for the swine flu.
But they are ALL recovering well and most of them will be going back to school today.
So, why all the fuss and why do I suggest it may be just more ‘nonsense’?
Because when you look at the facts and compare that to the fuss that is being made it is nonsense!
Just this morning the Director of the WHO announced that they were ramping up the pandemic status another notch. This would be music to the ears of all the bureaucrats in the WHO and other similar organizations. Once again it puts them into the limelight, gives them an excuse to convene conferences around the world and appear important.
I don’t have a problem with anyone wanting to get their little bit of glory but I am not so positive about it when it puts tax payers to unnecessary expense, but worse is that it creates unnecessary panic with many of the public. Some people are terrified about it and they have no reason to be.
With any flu outbreak it is sensible to do whatever can be done to contain the outbreak but not to the extent where it creates paranoia in a large sector of the population. It should be done with a lot less hype.
So, what are the facts?
At the time of writing this article In Mexico there have been 139 deaths in which the victims had flu like symptoms but ONLY 37 of these cases were confirmed as having swine flu.
Swine flu has been identified in about a dozen countries including the US and here in New Zealand from the people who arrived back from Mexico. But, there have been NO fatalities! In fact, it seems that the symptoms from this strain of flu are milder than the normal flu and the risk of it being fatal is very low.
So, why the fuss about what is really quite a minor issue?
Why doesn’t the WHO issue a pandemic alert for the ‘normal’ flu? After all the good old standard flu actually kills 20 000 people a year in the US alone and almost 500 000 people a year world-wide! Now that is serious but is largely ignored.
The death of 37 people in Mexico has created world headlines and triggered the spending of tens of millions of dollars in actions much of which are “over the top”.
Put it into another perspective: 37 people have died in Mexico through this form of the flu. Last month 3,500 people in Mexico were murdered in drug related crimes. Nobody says much about that. What about the thousands of children who die each month through not being able to access clean drinking water? Does the WHO declare this a pandemic? Of course not!
One has to wonder what really drives this over the top reaction. Is it just the media? Is it the politicians? Are the drug companies who prosper from these events gearing up their media companies to feed the story and keep it alive for as long as possible?
Who knows? I don’t.
But, this I do know - that is there is no need to panic. The likelihood of you getting swine flu is a lot less than the normal flu, and even if you did get it you are no more likely to die than if you got the ordinary flu.
There have been outbreaks like this since humans first populated the earth. In recent times we have had SARs, and bird flu panics. Both grossly overrated and I have written about both of them in the past.
Is there anything that you need to do?
In my opinion nothing more than you should be doing as part of your daily routine.
•Wash your hands before eating.
•Avoid touching your mouth with your hands particularly if you have been in a public place.
•Use ‘wipes’ to clean your hands if you have been to a public bathroom and touched the door handle when you leave.
Focus on your general health and keep your immunity levels as high as possible.
Remember that you are more likely to catch the flu from someone before they actually realize that they have it. In other words before their symptoms appear. So, it is impossible to avoid contact with it. Just take the basic precautions and don’t worry about it. I personally am not concerned about it because I know my immunity is so good and even if I get it I am not worried about dying from it.
Just following a good supplement protocol will build your immunity and reduce your risk. If you are not already doing so I would suggest taking Total Balance every day along with our Omega 3 / DHA Fish Oil.
Don’t do it specifically to protect yourself from swine flu. Do it to help protect yourself against all flu’s, colds and reduce the risks of other degenerative diseases including cancer. If you want to give yourself a quick additional immunity boost you can add our Viral-Protec in the regime as well.
But…don’t panic.
In good health,
Warren Matthews
PS. If you have been directly exposed to someone with confirmed or suspected swine flu then you should contact your health professional to check if it is warranted having a a course of Tamiflu. Don’t do it though without just cause though.

I wondering if you heard of Max GXL?
Its the latest product to hit the market and supported by people like Dr Keller and Guty Renker, and their main product contains Glutathione or stimulates that within cells so its produced in natural way and they claim its patent!
I have seen the video clip of Dr Keller interview, its the first clip on the left the one with Dr Keller interview:
http://www.maxgxl.com/movieplayer.php#
Thanks!
Thanks for your comments. I agree that some aspects of these 'scares' have some benefits in preparation for perhaps a real problem if and when it occurs. It just annoys me how these things take precedent over more important things.
But, I guess that is modern day media...always focus on things that are likely to frighten people.
Max GXL has been out for a while now. They rely on various precursors to help the body produce Glutathione. These ingredients are well known to bio-scientist and in fact we use the key ones in our Total Balance.
They are both correct and wrong when they say that Glutathione is not normally absorbed by the body in supplement form. This is because most forms of Glutathione have a large molecular weight. However, it is possible to get what is called a 'reduced' form which has a smaller molecular size...but it is a lot more expensive.
Then the other problem is that it is damaged if released in the stomach which is why glutathione capsules are of little value. It has to be released in the upper intestine. This means that the tablet has to be enteric coated...another significant expense.
We use both the reduced glutathione and release it in the upper intestine, in addition to having precursors.
The Max GXL looks like a good product for the purpose for which is was designed...but, it is far from being a complete product for overall general health. In so far as their claim that it is patented...that really means nothing. There are many ways to get the same result when using a combination of natural ingredients.
Thanks for being so helpful..
I wanted to know about natural progesterone that can be taken orally? I took it for 5 times 2 days then stopped...I was unsure about the dosage so I stopped.. My naturopath told me to take it five times a day for 10 days...But I have not taken it again since (5 weeks)...I have noticed weight gain, belly fat, constipation, fatigue, irregular menstruation...Im not sure whether you have any experience with this, if you do..please give me some ideas as to why this is happening...Dr. Ray Peat natural progest..Are there dangers to natural progesterone? I am 28...Thanks
At your age you should not have to supplement with progestoerone. It does not make a lot of difference whether it is natural or synthetic progesterone.
Have you had a full set of blood tests to determine if you are deficient in this hormone? It is a powerful one.
Taking too much of it would certainly 'confuse' your body, and at the doses you refer to it certainly seems that you were taking a lot over a short period of time.
My opinion when taking anything like progesterone or DHEA or any hormone is to ensure that you have comprehensive blood tests to confirm that there is a defiency and if so then have small daily doses and recheck the levels again in about another 60 days.
If you take to much you run a risk of shutting down your own 'manufacturing' system,
Yes i agree with you. Swine Flu is quite dangerous. It is highly contaminated and may result in death. It is so hazardous that due to its occurance maxico was shutdown for five days. So if anyone is doubted to be contaminated by it should be reported to the nearest health facility immediately. And thanks for the article warren it was full of information.
Right now I'm suffering from skin allergy. I'm not prettty sure, though since I haven't seen a Doctor yet. But if it is an allergy then this is my first time.I haven't had allergy before. My skin is very itchy then turn into rashes. Also, even if I exfoliate everyday (literally) after I dried myself I still see dead skin.I stopped using lotion for almost 2 weeks now, instead I'm using virgin coconut oil but my skin is very dry still. I wanted to know if the Xtend Life lotion can help me with my skin problem. I'm 45.
Thanks.
I really think that it is worth trying our lotion and stop doing the exfoliation for a while. Also, it is important to be aware that this problem is likely to be caused by something going on inside you. It may be an allergy as you suggest but if it is a reasonably recent occurance it is in my opinion more likely to be a nutrient deficiency of some sort.
My suggestion would be to add our new Omega 3 DHA fish oil to your daily regime at double the normal rates...4 per day, plus also add at least the Total Balance Unisex Standard or if you can manage the extra cost use the Premium version. The combination of these two supplements can do wonders for your skin.
If this and the skin care products don't help then you would need to go see a dermatologist...but, I would be surprised if this doesn't help.
Good luck
You were right about Max Gxl they infact have gone bust last week and are not in business at all.
I contacted the people behind Immunocal and they agreed with your view on Max-GXL.
I have mistaken them with Immunotecs Immunocal.
Immunocal is a product proven on a clinical level in dozens of trials and 30 years of research behind it and has also patens which is not as important as the clinical data and has been created by world famous doctors in the scientific community and the recent nobel prize winner has dedicated a chapter to Immunocal in his book and the benefits of it.
This is their site for researchers and doctors:
www.immunocal.com
I would love to hear your view on them and if their product can be taken with your products.
Thank you for your time!
Alex
Sorry to say but in my opinion this is just another overhyped product by an MLM company more focused on selling an opportunity than good health.
The product they are selling appears to be dairy based and is incorporated within a whey product which is an overpriced protein. Personally I would not ingest such a product. It is well established that protein from a dairy source such as this can help promote cancer,
You may find it interesting to read a book called the China Study in which reseachers were basically able to turn cancer cells on and off by regulating the intake of protein from dairy.
There is no compelling reason in my opinion to take such a product.
What about all the clinical evidence they claim?
They claim to be researchers turned into business men and that their product is the only natural product proven on a clinical level to raise glutathione levels and that there are no other companies who can make that claim that have clinical evidence. Thrir product is even featured in physicians red book in North America.
By the way what are the proteins made of by TB?
Actually there are many products listed in the Physicians book. We could get Total Balance listed if we wish but at this stage we have not got around to it.
The precursors to glutathione are well known and have been for many years. Also, you can supplement with glutathione directly such as we do in Total Balance. However, for that to be successful it has to meet two parameters. One is that it is the 'reduced' form or the low molecular weight one, and the other is that is must be released in the upper intestine. We meet both of these parameters.
They may well have taken there product and done a trial with it to prove that it raises glutathione levels but that is merely proving what it is already known those ingredients do.
Raising glutathione levels is only the tip of the wellness iceberg. What they have done is latched on to that, woven a good story about it, added in a bit of hype and put together an MLM business. It is very well done from a business perspective but not necessarily the best option for someone seeking optimal wellness.
We do not have proteins direct as such in TB but rather a selection of specific amino acids.
By taking glutathione it will be destroyed in the stomach acid and even if does not it wont stay long inside your system compared to having precursors and having your body produce glutathione instead.
I now you guys are on top of your game and i respect that!
When will you have your energy product out?
I really like to boost my energy during the day time without coffee or Red Bulls...
Remember that the glutathione in Total Balance is not destroyed by stomach acid because it is enteric-coated and it is not released until it reaches the upper intestine. Also, we used the small molecular weight version so the glutathione in Total Balance is actually more effective than the precursors.
With regards to the energy product, we did some testing and found that the modified formula was not as good as the Natural Energy formula that we currently have, so we just tweaked that formula a little to make it a bit more potent and we will be leaving it at that for the moment. Have you tried our Natural Energy formula? It does help if you take the full dose on an empty stomach around mid-afternoon.
I did not try the current energy product you have but will give it a try! I suffer from heartburn for a few years now and too much acid in the stomach i wonder how that would react to that product.
I have been trying for 2years now to get that treated and have used anti acids which only offer limited relief and no cure.
I have been afraid to get that tube down my throat to get it checked by doctors.
Great article - I just arrived back in NZ after living in Mexico for one year and was on a flight into Mexico City the day the Swine flue issue hit the media.
I went to the NZ media websites to see what they were saying and was shocked so sent email complaints to the NZ Media for their outrageous reporting of false facts e.g. 180 odd dead in Mexico was totally untrue.
The media rang me, fighting to get the story first from someone living there and someone with access to film camera's etc but no one in the end wanted to report what I was saying - not what they were looking for - Hype to sell a story. My story in the end was - get your facts right.
I love Mexico, it is a wonderful country of colour, tremendous food and warm friendly, people ... some of the most beautiful women in world - great for us single men :)
Thanks again
Danny
Thanks for sharing this with us. There is no doubt that the media have a lot to answer for in so many areas. The distortion of truth in the interest of a good story is a serious problem.
Actually I was in Mexico three weeks ago. Used to have a place down in Baja. Really like Mexico.
